2025 Split Rock Swim

The 2025 Split Rock Swim on August 20, 2025 started off from Split Rock!! Two days before the swim we were worried about the wind speed and direction. Our neighbor, Ron Holmes, suggested that if the wind was still coming from the east we should start the swim at Split Rock and swim west towards the beach with the wind at our backs. Because the wind was east to west at about14mph and visibly impacting the water surface with waves that were more than ripples, we took Ron’s suggestion. Some walked to Split Rock and Chris Casey ferried others over in his skiff.

Chip and Lynne Whipple, Mary Droser, Liza Casey, Mary Dzaugis, Julie Lipez and Theo Reichl started at Split Rock. Maggie Daley joined at about the half way mark launching from a kayak. All made it safely to South Ferry Hills’ Beach. (We did miss Nellie.). In the kayaks keeping the swimmers safe were: Austen Blair, David Lichtenstein, Nolan and Adrian Reichl, Jennifer Schottke and Ennio Stacchetti.

The sun was out, the water was lovely and the boats were few. Perhaps because of the wind many finished the swim faster than last year. Mary Dzaugis now holds the event record time of about 25 minutes. Theo Reichl at 12 years old is now officially the youngest person to complete the event!
