The 2026 Split Rock Swim was held on August 17th and like last year started off from Split Rock, at least sort of!! The tide was coming in and the wind was from the southeast so the conditions were more favorable for swimming west. The day started out with very light rain and an occational shower but faith in dopplar radar got us to a, still very gray, but rainless, 12:30pm start. We only “sort of” started from Split Rock because three swimmers, Liz Pennisi, Matt Butcher, and Jeremey (from Sag Harbor) actually swam from SFHA Beach to Split Rock, waited there and then swam back to SFHA Beach with the rest of us! The other swimmers were Ian Hughes, Lynne Whipple, Chip Whipple, Jennifer Schottke, Maggie Daley, Mary Droser and Liza Casey. In the kayaks were: Austen Blair, Andy Dzaugis, Ann Biddlecom and Ennio Stacchetti. Chris drove the skiff. The head cheerleader was Cassidy Blair.

The sun never came out, but the temperature was particularly pleasant and you know that song “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts, well it felt like that. The gray softened and there were good nibbles and vibes at the after party on Whipples deck, an important part of the swim!
